Year 1 English and Phonics: The Prefix ‘re’
Year 1 have been learning about the prefix ‘re’ through our Bug Club Phonics resources today and have written different words using this prefix. They understand that ‘re’ means to do again and have enjoyed spelling different words on the smart board today.
Year 1 Maths Telling The Time To The Hour
Year 1 have used mini analogue clocks today to practice telling the time to the hour. They understand the different between the hour and the minute hand and that the minute hand must be at the 12 to be o’clock. They have completed other activities matching different analogue clocks to the correct times and drawing the hands on clocks to show different times too.
Year 1 Maths Measuring in Minutes and Seconds
Yesterday Year 1 learnt how to use stopwatches and measured themselves doing different activities in partners. They really enjoyed seeing how many seconds or minutes and seconds activities took. They also did specific exercises for 1 minute to recognise how long this was.
Year 1 Building Homes Jesus’ World, Our World
This week in our RE lessons we have been comparing the buildings Jesus would have lived in and around. We have built our own cuboid homes and made a year 1 village. We recognise that when Jesus was on Earth there was no electricity, houses were not made from bricks and they often had flat roofs and no glass in the windows.
Year 1 DT Baby Bear’s Chair
Year 1 have been working really hard today to try and build a chair out of only card and masking tape for a teddy bear to sit on. They have been making nine cylinders and trying to connect them with masking tape to create a suitable and stable structure. They have shown great resilience and kindness towards each other when faced with this challenge. Well done Year 1!
End of Year Awards Ceremony
This morning we had a very special awards Worship to celebrate all the great achievements of our children and our school this year. Quinn received an award for being our planet protector by looking after our world and God’s planet in so many different ways, thank you for your contribution Quinn! We were so proud (and some of us a bit emotional!) to present Ezmae with the Sharon Kay award for always showing kindness and generosity to her peers, what a credit to the school! For our Progress awards, we said a huge congratulations to Lola, Bobby, Tilly, Charlie, Jacob, and Eddie, who have wowed us with their progress this year. We also had our Star of the year awards where Sophie, Ruby, Sofia, Arabelle and Frankie shone like the super stars they are. Our Children’s champion awards were chosen by each class to reiterate the importance of Democracy. Well done to Lyla, Scarlett, Ivy, Lily-May, Joshua and Mason, who have clearly impressed their peers! Finally, we had our Amazing attendance awards. We can never expect children to have 100% attendance as we all get poorly sometimes or have big events in our lives, so our school target for attendance is over 96%. So many of our children achieved this target, well done! Well done to all the award winners and all our other children in school who have shone in their own way this year. We hope they are all as proud of themselves as we are!
Year 1 Brockholes Adventure Playground PE on our School Trip
Year 1 really enjoyed doing PE within the different areas of the outdoor adventure playground at Brockholes Nature Reserve whilst on their trip this week. They had to climb, run, swing, push, pull, hang, hold on and balance on different equipment. A super time was had by everyone!
Year 1 Pond dipping at Brockholes
Year 1 were in three different groups to carry out this super activity at Brockholes Nature Reserve on their trip. They found different types of interesting creatures such as water snails, beetles, bugs, shrimps and nymphs when participating in the pond dipping activities. They used a classification sheet to help them identify creatures and magnifying glasses too as some creatures were very small.
Year 1 Brockholes Nature Reserve Trip
Year 1 have had an amazing time on their school trip at Brockholes Nature Reserve this week. They went pond dipping, bird watching and went on an amazing outdoor adventure playground in two smaller groups. Then after lunch in the lookout together, the whole class went into the Viking Woods to learn about different types of plants and trees. We played lots of games and went on a scavenger hunt too. It was an amazing day and we all absolutely loved learning about nature in such an exciting and fun way.
Year 1 DT Testing our Super Structures
Year 1 have really enjoyed testing their super structures today with heavy objects and celebrating their successes as a team.
Year 1 DT Super Structures Lesson 2
Year 1 have now finished their super structures in their second design and technology lesson using lots of cylinders. They are now ready to test the strength and stability of their finished structure.
Year 1 DT Super Structures Part 1
This week in our design and technology lessons we have been looking at different 3D shapes and seeing which shape is the strongest. The children have enjoyed testing the shapes and finding out that the cylinder was the strongest shape because it has no corners. We then started a super structure in teams using card and masking tape.
