Lancashire Schools Bee Stinger Netball
What a fantastic day we have had at the Lancashire Bee Stinger Netball Finals. We had the honour of representing the Borough after winning the Blackburn with Darwen School final a few weeks ago. We started off with an impressive 7-1 then went on to play several other matches which were a real mixed bag, but the children fought hard for every point and worked so well as a team. We are really proud of all of our children and it is such a big achievement to reach the Lancashire Schools finals. Small but mighty definitely sums us up!
Reception: Butterfly Release Day
Today was a very special day for our Reception children as they released their butterflies. The children have been so engaged throughout the entire process of watching the butterfly life cycle, observing firsthand how they change and grow from caterpillars. It was truly wonderful to see their excitement as they finally released the butterflies. This experience has been a fantastic way for them to learn about nature and the amazing transformations that occur in the natural world.

Year 5 - Year of Prayer
As part of this week’s Year of Prayer reflections, the children took time to think about their personal and collective achievements over the past year. They each cut out shapes to represent something they were proud of—whether it was a goal they had reached, a skill they had developed or a moment that made them feel proud. These shapes were then displayed on the classroom windows, coming together to form a vibrant and meaningful collage that celebrates all we have accomplished as a class community.
Reception: Muddy Monday
Our Reception class thoroughly enjoyed their Muddy Monday session! They had a fantastic time finding various bugs and enthusiastically creating homes for them. It was truly wonderful to observe their engagement and curiosity during these activities. It was also wonderful to see the children becoming braver, climbing higher up trees, and collaborating to create a camp fire. They also loved foraging for different natural materials to continue their imaginative role-playing games. Additionally, the children enjoyed closely observing the wildflowers and using them to create lovely summer scents, showcasing their creativity and sensory exploration.
Whole School Worship with Rev.Matt
Today’s worship began with an exciting race, where three pairs of children took part — each child carrying a partner on their back. This fun activity led us into our Bible story: “Was Paul worried?” In the story, we saw how Paul remained strong — not just for himself, but for others too. Even in difficult times, he encouraged and supported those around him. We reflected on the idea that sometimes, we are called to look after others, especially in important or challenging situations. The children then discussed the questions: How are others strong for you? How can you be strong for someone else this week? To conclude our worship, we were reminded that being strong doesn’t always mean being the loudest or the fastest — sometimes, true strength is shown through kindness, patience and standing by someone when they need us most. We left worship thinking about how we can be a source of strength and support for others in the week ahead.
Growing from Year 3 into Year 4’s Transition Day
What a fantastic day we have had with our soon to be Year 4 class! We have had a PSHE lesson - All About me , a Creative Writing session which focused on a dragon called Targon and a boy named Seb, plenty of artwork and we even managed to squeeze in some time on the MUGA and outdoor gym at the end of the day. The children have shown the four B’s and have been super enthusiastic, producing some wonderful pieces of work for our new displays. We can’t wait to welcome them back in September as they are definitely more than ready!
BwD School Games - Y3/4 Quad Kids
This afternoon some of our children from Years 3 and 4 represented the school at the Blackburn with Darwen School Games Quad Kids event at Witton park. The children did four events which included a 60m sprint, 400m long distance, vortex throw and long jump. Every single pupil represented the school wonderfully and really encouraged each other to push to their limits. We now need to wait to see how we’ve done once every school has completed the events. Fingers crossed for Team B !
Year 2 and 4 - Visit to St Barnabas Church
This Tuesday afternoon, our Year 2 had the opportunity to visit St. Barnabas Church. This visit was a perfect way to build on our recent RE lessons, where we've been learning all about what makes a church, its origins in the Bible, and the different features you might find inside. The children really impressed Rev Ben with their existing knowledge, confidently sharing what they'd learned in class. They got to explore areas of the church they wouldn't normally see, making the experience even more special. To round off the visit, the children had the chance to ask Rev Ben some excellent questions they'd prepared in their last RE lesson. It was a brilliant way to reinforce all the learning we've been doing and bring our RE lessons to life!
Year 2 - Year of Prayer
This afternoon, Year 2 spent some peaceful time in our spiritual garden for our Year of Prayer session. This week, we focused on thanking God for guiding us through difficult or hard times. We each found a pebble and held it as we said our prayers. The children shared incredibly thoughtful reflections on their own challenges, and it was wonderful to have a quiet space for such meaningful contemplation.
Year 3- Year of Prayer-Reflecting with Pebbles
This week, as part of our Year of Prayer, the children visited our spiritual area. Each child picked up a pebble and held it tightly, taking a quiet moment to think about the difficult things they face in life. They then asked God for help with these challenges. Afterwards, they placed their pebbles around the cross, a way of showing they were asking God for help with difficult times.

The W.O.W. Group - Prayer 24/7
Three of our W.O.W. group members accompanied Mrs Araujo up to the prayer tent this morning. Children from each class have been creating bunting, reflecting on times when they talk to God, and we wanted to display their lovely work inside the tent for all of the visitors to see. Whilst there, the children took part in some of the engaging prayer activities set up in the tent. They thoroughly enjoyed drawing, painting and doing jigsaws, but I think their favourite activity was writing a sin on a post-it and then using the sin shredder to shred it to pieces.
Year 5 - The Birth of Moses
In Year 5, the children explored the Bible story of Moses’ birth, learning about how God protected him through the courage and faith of several important women. They discovered the vital roles played by Moses’ mother (Jochebed), his sister (Miriam) and even Pharaoh’s daughter, who showed compassion by rescuing Moses from the river. Through this story, the children reflected on the significance of women in the Old Testament and how their actions were guided by faith, bravery and a deep sense of purpose. The children also discussed the broader theme of how God works through people, especially those who trust in Him during difficult times. They made links between the story and their own lives, considering how they can show faith, kindness and courage.
