Year 1 RE: Harvest Hamper
🌽Year 1 RE: Harvest Hamper 🥫 Year 1 collected food items to donate in our collective Harvest Hamper. This will go to families in need. We will be giving our hamper at St Barnabas Church on Sunday during the Harvest Family service. We can't wait to see as many children as possible singing songs of thanks. Thank you for all of your generosity! If any other year groups would like to donate any tins, packets or cans of food, please send them into school over the next couple of weeks as we are collecting for those in need locally.
The Great Big Assembly for Black History Month in Year 4
Today we took part in a special Worship to celebrate Black History Month. We watched a video that highlighted lots of wonderful people who have made Britain be Britain because of Black History. The theme for this special month is ‘ Honouring Our Communities’ so the presenters gave special shout outs to their dentist and local priest. Everyday Heroes: The theme shifts focus from solely celebrating globally or nationally famous figures to recognising everyday individuals whose unseen work sustains local communities. We looked at the contributions of local volunteers, teachers, NHS nurses, carers, youth workers, and community leaders. Next we took part in a quiz which Year 4 absolutely smashed! It was a great, interactive Worship which the children absolutely loved.
Year 5 - Money Skills
Miss Burnside from Debt Aware visited the class on Monday afternoon to introduce the children to managing money. They started off by discussing the difference between a want and a need by considering how essential to living different products and services are. Then the class considered borrowing and the difference between good and bad debt before identifying money saving tips such as turning lights off when not in use.
Year 4 Visit to Thorncliffe Nursing Home
Today Year 4 took their ‘I Wonder’ poems to Thorncliffe Nursing home and shared them with the residents there. It was such a lovely experience and the children were truly humbled. The residents then asked if we could sing to them so we did and tears of joy were shed. It was a heart warming day which everyone will remember.
Year 4; Enrichment Thursdays
We had our first Thursday Enrichment session in Year 4 today and the children absolutely loved it. They worked with Miss Carol and made cornflake crispy cakes, weighing, measuring and serving out the mixture. We can’t wait for every group to be able to experience the different activities on offer!
Year 3 - Live Author Session
On Tuesday, Year 3 class took part in a live author session on Zoom provided by Picture News. We heard from a number of authors including Jon Lock and Nich Angell, co-creators of the Tiny Hercules book series, and Dadbot author Jack Noel. During the live session, the children had the opportunity to ask questions and take part in challenges, but their favourite part was drawing Tiny Hercules and then creating their own character.
M&M Production: The New Adventures of Pinocchio
Today we were very lucky to have some visitors from M & M productions who performed The New Adventures of Pinocchio for us. Pinocchio is the classic story of a wooden puppet who comes to life and learns how to be brave, honest, and unselfish to become a real boy. The performance had some fantastic added extra toys such as Peppa Pig and Labubu’s which the children found highly amusing! We enjoyed some classic Pinocchio songs like ‘ Whistle While You Work’ and ‘ When You Wish Upon a Star’ The children were absolutely captivated by the actors and loved joining in especially Eleanor who got invited up on stage. What a super way to start our first Tuesday morning back in school off. Thank you to our FOSB for helping to fund this for our children.
Year 5 - Art Exhibition
On Friday Afternoon, we had the opportunity to visit the Art Explora Mobile Museum in Darwen town centre. We received a guided tour of the exhibit and had the opportunity to explore and enjoy a wide range of art forms including film, photography, sculpture and paintings. We then made a collective piece of art, using charcoals to create a seascape populated with real and imaginary creatures. What a great end to a brilliant first week in Year 5! 😃
Year 4 - RE: Church in the Park
To complete our RE unit on places of worship, the Year 4 children learned about Peter ‘The Rock’ and how he started the Christian Church. They explored statements about the Church and decided which they thought were the most important. The children learned that the term ‘Church’ has become synonymous with the place of worship, but that most importantly, the Church is the people gathering together to worship God and Jesus. With this in mind, we decided to take our ‘Church’ to Whitehall Park. We created a short service led by the children and decided on the essentials we would need in order to deliver the service. The children enjoyed creating crosses using natural materials, listening to Bible stories, hearing sermons and saying prayers linked to these. There was a bit of time left at the end for us to enjoy the playground too.
Celebrating a Fantastic Year in Year 3
This afternoon, Year 3 lived life to its fullest with a trip to the park! They had the best time playing and relaxing before we break up for the summer. This treat was so well- deserved; every single one of them has worked their absolute hardest in Year 3 this year. We are so proud of you all!
Year 5 - Circus Skills
Year 5 had a special opportunity to sharpen their circus skills this week. Everyone had the chance to participate in a range of activities such as: acrobatics, stilt walking, unicycle training, feather balancing, plate spinning, rhythm gymnastics and juggling. A great time was had by all!
Year 6 - Careers Day
Today, Year 6 celebrated the RotaKids Careers Day, with the children dressing up as the careers they aspire to have in the future. It was fantastic to see such a wide range of ambitions, from athletes and teachers to doctors, engineers, police officers and many more! Throughout the day, the children explored the importance of setting goals, working hard and showing resilience to achieve their dreams. The children discussed the skills, qualities and determination needed for different careers before creating informative and creative posters showcasing their chosen profession and the steps they can take to make their aspirations a reality. It was an inspiring day that encouraged the children to think positively about their futures and reminded them that, with dedication and perseverance, they can achieve great things.
