Year 5&6 EFL Winners
A huge congratulations to St Barnabas football team who won the first heat in the EFL Kids Cup. All the players showed tremendous attitude, grit and determination to succeed and win. They represented the school and themselves well and they all should be really proud of themselves. They battled hard, saw off some amazing teams and they got their reward.
Year 5-Dance- P.E.
The children started today's P.E lesson by creating interesting ways of travelling over, under and through with a partner. They then progressed to a very exciting activity. In pairs, the children chose a prop, for example (something that you would find in the kitchen), a pan, an apron, a cookery book etc. They then created a contact duet in which they fought over/played with the prop. Most of the children were able to move around with the prop, pass it back, hide it and rolled it. Some great constructive feedback was given by the groups watching.
Year 5- Speak Out Workshop- NSPCC
Following on from our virtual assembly, today we had two visitors from the NSPCC team delivering a 'Speak Out Workshop'. The children watched short clips and then had to decide in small groups whether that was bullying or not. We had some great responses. The children exclaimed that sometimes it all depends on the length of time and whether it was a one-off. It is vital that children reach out to stop bullying. They were reminded about talking to a trusted adult or putting a note in their class worry box.
Year 5- Odd Socks Day- Anti-Bullying Week-
Year 5 wear 'Odd Socks' to mark the start of Anti-Bullying Week. We're celebrating that we are all unique and that being different is okay.
Monday Worship: Anti-Bullying Week
Today is the start of anti-bullying week. We have all worn our odd socks to show that we are all special and unique. Yesterday was world kindness day. The children said that every day should be world kindness day! We listened to Andy Day about odd socks day. The theme for anti-bullying week is reach out which means talk to somebody about bullying to say it is not ok. During anti-bullying week, we will focus on the Christian values of friendship, respect, courage and forgiveness. We will also focus on the British Values of mutual respect, individual liberty and tolerance. Bullying is when somebody does something mean and they keep doing it again and again. James said the victim would feel “really sad and emotional”. Mrs Ham explained the acronym STOP. If someone does something Several Times On Purpose then it is bullying and we should Speak To Other People. We played a game where the children had to put their thumbs up if they thought the action was bullying and thumbs down if they thought if wasn’t. Mrs Ham asked what would happen if they saw bullying taking place. James said he would tell them to stop, Eli said tell the teacher. It takes courage to do something about bullying. During our reflection we thought about how we are all different and how we need to treat each other with respect. We finished our worship by listening to Andy and the odd socks song.
Golden Time - Year 5
During our 'golden time' this afternoon. The children have been involved in some fun and enjoyable activities. We had some children trying to complete a very challenging jigsaw which they managed to complete successfully, with great teamwork. Some of the children were competing against each other on TT Rockstars, drawing, teaching each other how to create a french plait and playing a game of cards. This is a wonderful way to reward them for their learning demonstrated throughout the week.

Poppy Appeal
Good morning, thank you so much for your kind donations to our Poppy Appeal by the Royal British Legion. Our heads and deputies have been busy selling poppy merchandise every break time this week. Our stocks were running low but we have managed to purchase another box of poppy appeal merchandise including more slap bands. Therefore, if you would like to purchase further items such as another slap band or poppy zip tie, please send money into school tomorrow. They will be for sale during celebration worship for parents and carers and at break time for children. Many thanks for your generosity to such a worthy cause.
Money Matters- Year 5
The children in Year 5 have had an invaluable session with Mr Souter today. They have been learning about how to manage money. They were first introduced to two key words ' WANTS' and 'NEEDS'. They then sorted a list of items into two categories; WANTS', such as a new mobile phone, new trainers, new bag etc. 'NEEDS', food, warm clothes, roof over our head and reading glasses. We then looked at different types of bank cards and how easy it was to get hold of a credit card. But after learning about the huge interest that can mount up if you can't pay off the money that you borrowed, the children decided that it wasn't a good idea to have one. The moral of the session was to only buy the things that you need and are essential not what you want because it has been advertised and it looks great.
Year 5 R.E- Visit from Reverend Adam
This afternoon, we had a visit from Reverend Adam from 'The United Reformed Church'. He came to talk to the class about the Bible. He answered lots of questions which the children had prepared. The children were also given the opportunity to explore different types of Bibles. We looked at 'The Police' Bible which had a section titled 'HELP'. This section directs you to passages that might help you if you're feeling lonely, if you're feeling afraid or if you just simply want to pray for someone you love. The children were also introduced to a song which might help to remember the books of the Bible. Reverend Adam also read his favourite story from the Bible, 'The Lost Sheep and Coin'.
St Barnabas Choir: Let's Go Sing Workshop
This afternoon, the school choir took part in a singing workshop with 'Let's Go Sing'. During the workshop, the children took part in some fun warm up activities and practiced a selection of songs, that we they will be singing and performing at King George's Hall, on Monday 14th March. It was great to see the choir so enthusiastic and the children particularly enjoyed dancing and performing the song 'It's Carnival Time' around the hall!
Librarian Club
Our librarians have been very busy today. They have tidied the library and read stories to key stage one at lunchtime. It has been wonderful to see how enthusiastic they all are.
