Year 1: Planting Trees
Year 1 had a fantastic time planting trees. We learnt all about the roots and fungus on a tree and how to plant them into the ground. All of the children were able to plant two trees each and this will make a positive difference to our environment. We cannot wait to see them grow over the years.
Year 1 PSHE: Catch it, Bin it, Kill it
Year 1 continued to learn about the spread of germs and illness in PSHE. We watched a short video explaining that to keep hygienic we should follow 3 steps: catch it, bin it and kill it. We should catch our germs with a tissue, bin the tissue and wash our hands to kill the germs. To make our whole school aware of these rules, we worked in groups to create a poster for each class.
Whole School- Safer Internet Day 2026-Centered on the responsible use of AI.
To mark Safer Internet Day 2026, Mrs Araujo led a special Worship centered on the responsible use of AI. The session started with the Heads and Deputy Heads signing the Trinity. The children then watched a short video and discussed how AI can assist us in our daily lives. Through a fun identification game, pupils practised spotting AI-generated images and learned that because AI can make mistakes, its results are not always true or accurate. This helped our children understand the importance of being cautious and informed digital citizens.
Year 1 Art: Creating our Final Pieces
In Art, we used our previous plan to create our Clarice Cliff inspired plates. Year 1 looked carefully at their previous planning design to draw onto their plates and used their painting skills to paint some beautiful artwork. Not only had we been inspired by Clarice Cliff, but our own versions of We’re Going On A Bear Hunt. Our plates depict our innovated scenes such as a candy land, swamp, beach, rainforest, hill or volcano. We are very excited to see our artwork on display too.
Year 1: Special Visitor
As part of National Storytelling Week, we invited parents and carers to come into school and read. Year 1 were very excited as Annie’s mum, Natalie, came and read to us. She chose to read Monkey Puzzle by Julia Donaldson, one of our favourite authors! Thank you Mrs Eccles, the children absolutely loved the story!
Year 1 RE: Jesus Turns Water into Wine
In RE, we looked at another story which shows us that Jesus is special. It is about a time when Jesus attended a wedding, but they ran out of wine. He used special stone jars to turn water into wine. We discussed what a wedding is and showed pictures of our own experiences at weddings. We then created special celebration jars that we might use at a wedding.
Year 1 Creative Area: Making Forky
In the Creative Area this week, Year 1 have created their own Forky. This is based on our PE, as we have been creating dances based on Toy Story, focusing on Woody and Forky’s friendship. They have really enjoyed making their own Forky friend.
Year 1 Class Worship: National Storytelling Week
As it is National Storytelling Week, we were fortunate enough to join a Class Worship led by Annemarie Anang, the author of I Am Nefertiti. We loved joining in with the story and creating sounds and music. Then, we created some “I Am” poems which focused on our good qualities and being proud of our name. For example: “I am kind. I am smart. I am helpful. I am (name).” They also designed their backgrounds and shared them with each other.
Key Stage 2 - Timestable Rockstar Battle
Huge congratulations to all of our Key Stage 2 children who competed in this month’s Times Tables Rock Stars Battle. We were incredibly impressed with the effort and enthusiasm shown by everyone involved. Our individual award winners are: • Year 3 – Charlie Duckworth • Year 4 – Bobby-Ray Catterall • Year 5 – Carter Corran • Year 6 – Charlie Shorrock A special well done also goes to Year 6, our overall winning class for this battle. As a reminder, in order to raise money for the NSPCC, we will be launching the KS2 Times Tables Rock Stars NSPCC Battle in school on Friday 6th February. Throughout the day, children will collectively build up their scores, which will contribute to a whole-school total. To celebrate Number Day, all children — including Reception and Key Stage 1 — are invited to come to school wearing their own clothes that depict a number (for example: numbers on clothing, badges, or Times Tables Rock Stars-themed outfits). Voluntary donations will be available via ParentPay to support this fantastic cause.
Year 1 Geography: Exploring UK Capitals
Today Year 1 flew around the United Kingdom to visit our capital cities London, Cardiff, Belfast and Edinburgh. Whilst on our airplane flying to the cities, we matched the countries (England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland) to their flags in our passports. We also listened to each country’s National Anthem. When we arrived in our capital cities, we explored a human feature and a physical feature in each city. For example, in London we explored Big Ben and River Thames. To share our knowledge, we wrote postcards to Mrs Ham to explain where we had been on our travels and what they had learnt.
Year 1 English: Writing an innovated story
Year 1 have been working extremely hard in English this week writing their innovated versions of ‘We’re Going On A Bear Hunt’. They are writing three innovated settings and they changed the character too. It has been tricky to remember all of their exclamation marks and full stops, but they have shown resilience and are almost finished with their stories. Well done Year 1!
Year 1 PSHE: Fruit Kebabs
Year 1 had a brilliant time creating fruit kebabs today. We recapped healthy and unhealthy foods, the different food groups and how they help our bodies. It is recommended to eat 5 portions of fruit or vegetables a day and these kebabs helped us to reach that goal. They were also really yummy to eat!
