Year 4 Residential trip to the Anderton Centre
Our Year 4 children went the Anderton Centre for their outdoor and adventurous residential for one night. They had an amazing time taking part in team building games, archery, paddle boarding, canoeing, climbing and cannonballing into freezing cold water! They developed their resilience and really challenged themselves and it was wonderful to see them encouraging each other too. A huge thank you to Mrs Araujo, Mrs Gardner and Mrs Singleton for giving up their time to support the children. Year 6 Gaelic Football
Year 6 enjoyed their final Gaelic football session, this week. They culminated all of the skills they have learned over previous weeks into playing team matches. The children have really enjoyed this unit of P.E!
Year 2 - Visiting the Rose Garden
Yesterday afternoon, Year 2 walked to Whitehall Park to look at the Easter artwork produced by our school in the Rose Garden. It was great to see so many lovely pieces of Artwork depicting different parts of the Easter Story. Some of Year 2 were very pleased to see their very own artwork! They also contributed collectively 70 km towards our Big Lent Walk.
Year 5 - Rose Garden Visit
Year 5 visited the Rose Garden to view the beautiful Easter artwork on display. The children took time to reflect on the meaning of Easter as they explored the creative pieces, which celebrated themes of hope, new life and resurrection—reminding us of the message of living life in all its fullness. They also collectively contributed 70km to our Big Lent Walk.
Year 4 - Big Lent Walk to the Rose Garden
Yesterday, the Year 4s took advantage of the lovely weather and completed a Big Lent Walk to the Rose Garden at Whitehall Park. Whilst there, we spent time exploring the selection of artwork and poetry shared by each class. We helped the Reception children read the poetry and completed challenges to find each part of the Easter story.
Year 1- Big Lent Walk
This morning, Year 1 walked 7.5km each, totalling a huge 225km as a collective. They did this by walking into Darwen Town Centre to take pictures of some of our well known landmarks in preparation for their art unit next half-term. This included India Mill, Darwen Post Office, Darwen Leisure Centre, Darwen Market Hall and Darwen Library. We extended our stay at Darwen Library by going inside to enjoy a lovely story. Finally, we came back to school to write a recount of our walk. We had to make sure that we were capitalising proper nouns (including the names of people, places and street names) as this is the grammar skill that we we have been working hard on over the last couple of weeks.
Rocksteady Spring Concert
Today we were treated to a very special Rock Concert by the brilliant members of our Rocksteady Music groups. This was a wonderful celebration of all their efforts and the hard work they have put in over the last term. ‘The Black Panthers’ performed a fantastic rendition of Sk8er Boi - A big well done to Harry H, Elsie, Rosie, Darcy, Euan, Sonny, Lennox, Daisy and Miles! Our youngest band, ‘The Little Rock Gorillas’ then performed a brilliant mash-up of Shotgun/I’m still standing - A super well done to Cassius, Zac, Harry J, Annabel, Eve and Harry T for showing such confidence! The 'Fast Velociraptors' performed a rocktastic version of Bye Bye Bye - A huge well done to James, Jack, Jacob and Fletcher.! Last but not least, Rickle Roll Rockstars performed a super cool version of Never Gonna Give You Up by Rick Astley- A big well done to Oscar, Matthew, Quinn and Beau! We are so proud of the courage and dedication these children have shown to their Music. They have worked really hard to master lots of challenging musical skills, such as reading music, playing chords and keeping to the beat/rhythm. We would also like to say a big thank you to Jess, our Rocksteady band leader - this would not have been possible without the knowledge, encouragement and support she provides to our children every week. Keep Rocking St Barnabas!
Year 2 - Big Lent Walk
Today, Year 2 embarked on their Big Lent Walk, exploring the scenic surroundings of Jack's Key. This provided a wonderful opportunity for the children to appreciate the natural beauty we are fortunate to have within our local area. During the walk, the children were encouraged to observe and identify signs of spring. They were delighted to spot daffodils, butterflies, and bees, whilst enjoying being outdoors in the glorious sunshine. The total distance covered by Year 2 will contribute 75km to our overall Big Lent Walk initiative. We are continuing to strive towards our fundraising goal and would be grateful for any donations, however small, to acknowledge and support the children’s efforts. Year 5 Bikeability
Year 5 have been taking part in Bikeability sessions, where they have learned: how to correctly wear their helmet; how to make sure their bike is road-worthy; how to ride with confidence and control and how to ride their bike safely on the road.
Reception: Muddy Monday
The children explored Jack Keys for their Muddy Monday session. They enjoyed a walk, built sculptures, built a den, balanced on natural materials and collectively walked 58km to add to our CAFOD Big Lent Walk. Well done!
Year 5 - Gaelic Football
Year 5 had their final session on Gaelic football, putting all their hard work and effort into action during competitive game situations. Throughout the sessions, they have developed their skills, teamwork and understanding of the game, finishing with an exciting and well-played final match. Well done to everyone for their dedication and enthusiasm!
