Let’s go sing concert at Ewood Park!

A huge well done to our choir for their enthusiasm and super singing tonight. It took me over an hour to get there due to being stuck in the horrendous traffic around Ewood Park but it was certainly worth the wait to see these beaming smiles! Thank you to our choir parents for your support and patience tonight. I hope you managed to see some of the concert. A huge thank you to Miss Ashworth and Mrs Hargreaves for all of their effort in helping the children learn the songs. Our choir will be singing one of their favourite songs from the concert in Worship tomorrow so please come along to watch if you are free. Well done choir, you little superstars! I am so proud of you all!

Food technology- Serve a Salad- Year 5

Over the past few weeks, the children in Year 5 have been learning about different types of salads and ingredients used in salads around the world. They have been learning about healthy eating (with a focus on fibre) and practising using food preparation skills, including the bridge hold and claw grip, safely and hygienically. They have tasted food from other countries to help give them new experiences and flavour ideas which then led to them making a healthy salad for a friend. Prior to this, they created a questionnaire to research the requirements and preferences of their salad recipient.  This afternoon, they made a salad for their friend and they were reminded to be as accurate as possible with their preparation. Thinking about the appearance, size and shape of the ingredients they are preparing. They then ate their salad with their friends and evaluated their design against the design criteria and feedback from others.

Year 2 PSHE: Dental Health

This week in PSHE, Year 2 have been learning about dental hygiene. We thought about the different sugary foods we eat and how it is important to have a balanced diet, as this will help our teeth to stay healthy! We looked at how we can look after our teeth, by brushing our teeth twice a day for 2 minutes. Each child received a Colgate tooth brush, tooth paste and information pack to take home with them!

Year 4- SMART School Council

This morning we held our first SMART School Council meeting in Year 4. We had a Class Meeting leader and a Class Meeting Notetaker. Because so many of us wanted to take the role, we used Class Dojo randomiser to select the pupils. Sophie and Freddie led the meeting and we looked at which example would have the most impact on improving our environment. We worked in groups and the majority thought that to stop littering would have the biggest impact on our planet. Year 4 had a great attitude and discussed ideas with confidence and maturity.

Year 1 Science- Plants

This afternoon, Year 1 have been exploring the different stages of plant growth. They created their own animations on Purple Mash to illustrate these stages and then played them back to enjoy watching their plant grow. Some children even added visiting bees to their plants to pollinate them, their plant being watered and seeds dropping off their plants to form new ones. They also explained what the different parts of the plants do such as the stem transporting the water and the nutrients from the roots to the plant.

Year 1- Science Results

This afternoon, Year 1 had a look at the results of their science investigation. The children discovered that our plant that was given sunlight, water and soil grew to be healthy, our plant without water didn’t grow, our plant without soil didn’t have the correct nutrients to grow and our plant without sunlight did grow but it died and didn’t have a green colour.

Interactive Transitioning Session

Today Year 6 took part in an interactive transitioning session with St Wilfrids and Darwen Vale. They were able to ask Year 7’s from each school any questions they had and spoke openly about any worries or concerns they might have regarding starting high school. The staff and children from St Wilfrids And Darwen Vale were brilliant and even those children not attending these schools learnt a lot about what is to come.
