Year 2 - Creative Writing

During our writing unit the children have been sorting their own sequel adventure to the amazing story A Winter’s Child. The children based their writing on their characters drawing a magical door and then writing about what would be on the other side of that magical door. All the children used really exciting vocabulary and lots of technical grammar skills to make their writing exciting and griping for the reader. A huge focus on presentation and handwriting has been instilled into the children and the examples show some beautifully presented work.

Reception-Phonics

We have recapping our digraphs in phonics. We have been using phonics play to read words and then decide whether the word is a ‘real’ or a ‘nonsense word’. The children have also been writing a sentence about the kings coronation, they wrote ‘The king has a crown’, they did this independently if they could using their phonics sound mats.

Mrs Ham's Weekly Messsage

Good afternoon parents and carers, we have had a short but very busy week at St Barnabas celebrating the King's upcoming coronation. We had a wonderful red, white and blue day and coronation picnic on Wednesday with the whole school eating and playing out together on the top field. To learn more about that and what your child has been learning this week, click here: https://www.stbarnabasdarwen.co.uk/news A huge good luck to our Year 6 children as they have their SATS next week. Year 6 children can arrive from 8.45am and will be provided with a breakfast each day but please feel free to give them a breakfast before they arrive if they are used to eating earlier. Please make sure they get plenty of food, rest and sleep this weekend so they are ready to do their best and shine like the stars that we know they are. All of the children have been given a special commemorative coronation coin, book mark and sticker from our Cidari Trust as well as a special coronation flag purchased through a donation from BWD council. We hope that you all have a wonderful bank holiday weekend and enjoy watching or joining in with the coronation celebrations. If you haven't got any plans yet then Whitehall Park has a family fun day on Sunday and the town centre has a street party on Monday. (Posters are attached) See you all on Tuesday. Take care and enjoy the bank holiday weekend, Mrs Ham

Reception- PE

In PE today, the children started with a warm up game of musical statues where they showed us the different ways they can travel around the room. The children then went to the different stations where they practiced being caterpillars and butterflies. On the bench, they had to crawl along like a caterpillar and then jump off like a butterfly. On another station, they had their own butterfly beanbags that they had to throw into the hoop. The children also practised hopping onto the spots and walking on their tiptoes with their arms out like a butterfly.

Celebration Worship: King Charles III

This morning during celebration worship, we learnt all about the coronation of King Charles III, which will be happening this weekend. We spoke about some of the important things to look out for during the coronation and what it will be like when King Charles is coronated. We also spoke about some of the celebrations that are happening in Darwen this weekend, such as a street party on Monday in the town centre and a party in Whitehall Park on Sunday! We also celebrated all of our successes and achievements in school this week, such as TriKidz and our coronation picnic lunch! We finished our Worship by singing the National Anthem to the new King whilst waving our special coronation flags that our school have bought us. Our Trust have also bought us some special gifts of a commemorative coronation coin, a bookmark and sticker. Thank you Cidari Multi Academy Trust!
